About the Role
IGV Housing is seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance & Millwright Lead to manage the maintenance function of our manufacturing facility in Port Alberni. This role combines classic millwright responsibilities with facilities oversight. You will be responsible for managing the maintenance team, ensuring smooth installation and operation of equipment, performing preventative and reactive maintenance, and ensuring facility infrastructure and safety systems are operating effectively.
The role requires Millwright experience, hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude, and the ability to lead in a dynamic and evolving manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Installation & Commissioning
Oversee unloading, placement, and installation of machinery and fixtures
Refurbish and prepare equipment for safe operation
Lead mechanical and basic electrical installation work
Coordinate external contractors and vendors
Lead clean-up and organization of the existing facility, including sorting, cataloguing, and preparing surplus parts and equipment for sale
Production Equipment Maintenance
Perform millwright duties including assembly, installation, and alignment of equipment
Lead and assign preventative and reactive maintenance for production machinery
Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical faults to reduce downtime and optimize reliability
Track equipment performance KPIs and recommend improvements
Maintain parts inventory and coordinate repairs
Manage blades, drills, and tool sharpening schedules; oversee machinery consumables orders
Facilities Maintenance
Oversee general facility maintenance including lighting, ventilation, plumbing, and building infrastructure
Perform routine inspections and manage service schedules
Support utility system upkeep and ensure building systems are running safely and efficiently
Maintenance Operations & Team Supervision
Manage the Maintenance & Facilities team, setting priorities and daily task assignments
Provide on-the-job training, mentorship, and guidance for apprentices or junior technicians
Track maintenance activity and ensure clear reporting
Assist with budgeting and cost tracking for maintenance operations
Health & Safety Coordination
Develop and enforce Health & Safety procedures, documentation, and training plans
Maintain and update safety plans, risk assessments, near-miss reports, and investigation logs
Ensure contractor and staff orientation and ongoing safety training
Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) requirements
Promote a culture of safety and continuous risk reduction
Continuous Improvement & Optimization
Identify and implement opportunities to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
Contribute to lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives
Collaborate across departments to support operational improvements
Develop and maintain SOPs and maintenance documentation
Qualifications & Experience
Millwright experience or equivalent trade certification strongly preferred
5+ years’ experience in industrial, mechanical, or facilities maintenance roles
Demonstrated experience supervising a maintenance team
Strong mechanical aptitude with basic electrical knowledge (ticket not required)
Proven experience with machinery installation, troubleshooting, and repairs
Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
Forklift Operator preferred
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Experience in modular construction, automation, or advanced manufacturing is desirable
General computer literacy: ERP system experience is an asset
