About the Role
IGV Housing is seeking an enthusiastic Facilities & Maintenance Assistant to support the safe setup and smooth operation of our manufacturing facility in Port Alberni. This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career who enjoys working with their hands, learning new skills, and contributing to a high-quality, fast-moving production environment.
In this role, you will assist with equipment installation, routine maintenance, facility upkeep, and materials handling to help keep the factory organized, efficient, and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Installation & Setup
Assist with unloading and moving machinery, tools, and fixtures
Support basic installation and assembly of equipment under supervision
Operate a forklift to safely transport materials and equipment
2. Maintenance Operations & Facility Support
Perform routine checks on tools, equipment, and facility systems (e.g., lighting, ventilation)
Help with preventative maintenance tasks and minor repairs
Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards
Support the Maintenance Technician with daily priorities and task lists
Assist in managing spare parts and consumables inventory
3. Facility Upkeep & Grounds Maintenance
Maintain cleanliness and organization of all internal areas, including workshop, storage, and common areas
Perform regular cleaning and tidying of workspaces, entrances, and break areas
Support basic upkeep of facility exteriors and grounds, including litter removal, sweeping, and snow/ice clearing as required
Conduct routine inspections to identify and report hazards or maintenance needs
Assist with minor repairs to building fixtures, fencing, and external structures
4. Safety, Compliance & Records
Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times
Maintain accurate logs of tasks completed and materials used
Participate in health, safety, and environmental initiatives
5. Continuous Improvement
Help identify opportunities to improve workflow and reduce waste
Participate in training to build skills in equipment care and facility operations
Qualifications & Experience
Some work experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, trades, or similar environment
Driver’s License and Forklift Operator License preferred
Interest in learning mechanical and facility maintenance skills
Basic computer literacy for record keeping and documentation
Ability to lift moderate weights, stand for extended periods, and perform physical work safely
